Top Picks by Giselle Potter

For our twelfth auction, playfully titled “Weird & Wonderful”, we chose Hudson Valley-based artist Giselle Potter to pick out her “Top Ten” list of items. We felt that she would be the perfect match for this sale considering all of the interesting and unique items in it’s catalog. Giselle has a knack for all things visually interesting, and a broad-reaching and wonderfully distinctive creative touch. Her home, studio and the Hudson Valley as a whole have all been influenced by her art. Now a long-time resident of the Hudson Valley, Giselle spent her early years traveling the world with her grandparents.

I was lucky enough to become acquainted with Giselle several years ago. Spending time with her and her lovely daughters since has been one of the joys of my life! Her daughters are creative, smart and considerate people who I am glad to know. Giselle has an interesting, and unique taste in design which is reflected in her paintings and collages. Giselle’s kind, peaceful and considerate way of being has influenced many people in her community just as her illustrations have influenced other artists and illustrators.

Giselle is an accomplished illustrator and author of over twenty-five children's books, including The Year I Didn’t Go to School, which she wrote and illustrated about her travels as a child puppeteering in Italy. Giselle’s Books can be found on the shelves of book stores, museums and shops all around the world! One of my favorites is her new book titled This is my Dollhouse. The cover illustration shows a dollhouse that she later constructed. [Click here to view the video.] Two other books of hers that are personal inspirations of mine are Lucy’s Eyes and Margaret’s Dragon: Lives of the Virgin Saints and To Do: A Book of Alphabets and Birthdays .

Giselle Potter’s work can be found in the New Yorker, The New York Times, and on the walls of many homes both in the Hudson Valley and worldwide. She has had exhibits all over the United States, from NYC to LA–including right down the block from Public Sale at the Carrie Haddad Gallery in 2014. We hope you enjoy seeing her work, (especially if you haven't seen it already,) and viewing her Top Picks
