For this auction we reached out to our beloved friend Carolita Johnson for her top picks.

She is best known for her smart cartoons, appearing in New Yorker Magazine for years. She is also known for her political strength, wit, ethical conviction and unwavering support of justice for all. She is glamorous, funny, hard-working and honest!

She has a dear place in our hearts and we love the opportunity to get her picks! Carolita is known worldwide for her cartoon illustrations, but, she is also a writer and storyteller; her work has appeared on Long Reads and in the Huffington Post, amongst others.

Before becoming a cartoonist she studied at Parsons School of Design, and worked as a model in London and Paris. While in Paris, she earned a masters degree in modern letters and linguistics.

She recently taught a writing class at SUNY New Paltz. Carolita is a cortado aficionado, a mender, a pickler, a poppy seed milk maker, a friend and confidante; a real jack-of-all trades!

A long time New York City resident, we didn't meet Carolita until her and her partner moved upstate and we found ourselves Kingston neighbors! A major life change for the them, they quickly adapted and became beloved to all they came across.

As we got to know her we realized her love for vintage & antiques, anything unique really. Always talking about something she got at the local shop or donning a newly acquired vintage dress, making lamp shades, fixing tables..

Until recently, you never saw Carolita without her sidekick Hammy, her best friend and dog companion. Hammy also had a special place in our heart and losing him was a tough loss for Carolita and everyone who knew him, he was a smart and very refined dog who loved banana chips and hated cold feet! We miss you Hammy, you will always be our number one dog!

She’s currently producing work after creative work— spending more time in front of a sketch pad and computer-continuing to work during Covid-19. Sadly for us and so many others we don't get to have in-person rapport with her. When things change we look forward to sharing a morning over coconut cortados with her, and replacing the caj puzzle piece that is missing from our hearts…
