"As Seen in Snapshot"

Here’s a cool story from one of Public Sale’s many adventures in the auction business:

About half of the 900 lots from our auction, titled “Americana & Historical Antiques,” were sourced from one Hudson, NY resident’s collection of 19th century furniture, cast iron, and local history.

During our initial phase of cataloging this collection, we stumbled upon a few black & white snapshot photos. Upon closer inspection, we discovered that pictured in the photos were a number of the items that we had found in his collection, including the 19th century captain's Windsor chair that can be seen here:

Written on the back of the photo was a date: “1963.” This was remarkable to us as it implied that the chair had been in his possession for more than fifty years!

In the same photo as the captain's chair, behind it to the right, is a large brass tray which will also be sold in our upcoming Americana auction, as will the painting of a cherub which can be seen on the wall to the left in the second photo (it was framed sometime after this photo was taken). Just below the painting is a Spanish Revival table (which will also be sold in our upcoming auction.) And lastly, at the top of the shelf in the second photo is a brass samovar which, you guessed it, will be included as well.

And Stay Tuned…

Many of the books seen on the shelves in these photos will be sold in a future auction which will be focused on books & ephemera.
